About the Event

Klara Soukup is a science journalist and science communication specialist with a strong background in academic research. Trained as an immunobiologist, she spent around ten years working as a researcher in Europe and the United States, completing a PhD and postdoctoral research in oncology and immuno-oncology.

While working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Lausanne (Unil), Klara realized that her main interest lay in communicating science rather than pursuing a traditional academic career. She subsequently transitioned into journalism, completing postgraduate training in science journalism.

Today, Klara works in the communications unit of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine at Unil and is active as an independent science journalist. She writes for national and international media, moderates public events, contributes to science podcasts, and teaches science communication. Her work draws on both her experience as a scientist and her journalistic expertise to make complex research accessible, accurate, and engaging.

In this workshop, Klara Soukup will explore how scientists can adapt their communication to different audiences and goals. The session will address the key differences between disseminating research to peers and communicating with the general public, with a focus on choosing appropriate channels and formats for each context. Participants will be introduced to concrete tools related to language use, storytelling, and practical science communication. The workshop will also include a hands-on exercise in which participants work on a press release, applying the concepts discussed during the session.
