Public Lecture 2025
Tuesday 26th August 2025 - 6.45 pm BST (502 Building, University of Liverpool)
Integrating Better Maternal, Child and Family Mental Health Care into the Journey to New Parenthood: A View from Obstetrics and Paediatrics
This year’s public lecture brings together an obstetrician (Prof. Asma Khalil) and a paediatrician (Dr. Helen Nabwera) —both with strong connections to Liverpool—to explore how mental health care can be more effectively integrated across the perinatal and early childhood periods. Drawing on clinical experience and community insight, the lecture will open up a vital conversation about supporting the psychological wellbeing of parents, babies, and families as a whole. All conference delegates and members of the public are warmly invited to join this important discussion.
This public lecture is provided as part of the Society's 45th Annual Conference, but you do not need to be registered for the conference to attend this event. Conference delegates are automatically registered for the public lecture, but for those not attending the conference, registration can be found here.
Please email admin@srip.org for any queries.

SRIP Lecturer Award 2025 - Professor Cindy-Lee Dennis, University of Toronto

Perinatal Mental Health - Next Steps for Innovation
Professor Cindy-Lee Dennis has a simple maxim: “Healthy babies start with healthy parents.” This belief has led Professor Dennis to focus her research career on rigorously evaluating interventions that can directly improve the health of mothers and fathers, with the overall goal of improving child health and well-being. She has over 25 years of experience leading large perinatal mental health cohort studies and clinical trials — including intervention care models that leverage technology to improve clinical effectiveness and accessibility — recruiting participants from all across Canada. She also developed the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale, the most widely used breastfeeding measure internationally that has been translated into over 20 different languages to identify women early who are at-risk of poor breastfeeding outcomes. In total, Professor. Dennis has over 350 peer-reviewed research papers. She has received numerous awards and honors, including a Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and the Marcé Medal from the International Marcé Society for Perinatal Mental Health. Currently, she is the president-elect for the International Marcé Society for Perinatal Mental Health and will be hosting the international conference in Toronto, Canada in 2028.
