About the Event
Professor Lesley Ann Page CBE, MSc, BA, RM, RMT is a British midwife and academic, and was President of the Royal College of Midwives for five years. She qualified in midwifery at the Simpson Memorial Maternity Pavilion, Edinburgh, in 1966. She has been part of the global ‘humanising childbirth’ movement which began in Brazil to make childbirth a more humane experience for all mothers and their babies.
Humanising childbirth means paying attention to the basic human rights of people in labour and their newborns, providing easy access to appropriate care, having the right to choose how to give birth, with whom and where, receiving good emotional and social support during and after labour, providing adequate health care and protection from abuse or neglect (CASSIANO et al., 2015).
We would like to invite you to join us to listen to Lesley speak on humanising childbirth from 10.30-11.30am.
The workshop will open 30min beforehand for anyone who wants to join early and for introductions, and will be open for 30min wafterwards for anyone who wants to stay and discuss the humanising childbirth movement and what it might mean in their contexts and for their own current or future research.
