Dr. Leanne Jackson (University of Liverpool) used an SRIP Research Development Workshop Grant to advance the development of the Jackson Postpartum-Specific Guilt and Shame Scale (JPGSS), a novel measure designed to assess postpartum-specific guilt and shame. The funded interdisciplinary workshop brought together researchers, clinicians, statisticians, third-sector representatives, and people with lived experience to evaluate the scale's content, face validity and psychometric feasibility. Feedback from the expert panel led to substantial refinement of the measure, resulting in a final 48-item scale that is now undergoing large-scale validation. Once validated, the JPGSS has the potential to support research into maternal mental health and provide healthcare professionals with a valuable tool for identifying women who may benefit from additional support, helping to improve outcomes for mothers and their infants.
