SRIP Development Workshop Grant Report (2026) - Dr. Patricia Trautmann-Villalba & Jennifer Waldheim Arizu
Dr. Patricia Trautmann-Villalba and Jennifer Waldheim Arizu successfully delivered the SRIP Research Development Workshop “Early Parental Affective Bonds – Assessment, Interventions, Research” at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Buenos Aires, in September 2025, in collaboration with Fundación Neonatológica, Dr. A. Miguel Larguía (FUNLARGUÍA). The workshop brought together 61 professionals from across Argentina, including psychologists, midwives, paediatricians and occupational therapists, many of whom work in clinical perinatal mental health.
Through interdisciplinary presentations and discussion, the workshop explored the assessment, intervention and research of early parental bonding, covering prenatal bonding and humanised birth, skin-to-skin contact, the distinction between bonding and bonding disorders, and use of the Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire. Participants reported greater conceptual and clinical understanding and highlighted the relevance of the workshop to clinical practice, teaching and research. The workshop also generated opportunities for future collaboration and research, including ethical approval for a study to culturally and linguistically adapt the Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire in Argentina.
